Team Building & Training

Transforming Meetings through the Thinking Environment®

Do you ever feel that meetings in your organisation suck up a lot of time and energy but deliver very little in terms of getting the best ideas and action from your team?  Do you want to strengthen relationships and the ability to work together constructively?

The Thinking Environment® approach developed by Nancy Kline can ensure that you create the conditions for everyone in the meeting to do their very best thinking and to contribute positively and creatively to discussions and decisions.      As a certified Time to Think Facilitator I have been delighted to see the impact of the 10 components and the applications in transforming meetings in a variety of organisations including social enterprise, public sector and teams within the complementary health and counselling sectors.  Please contact me if you would like to have an exploratory conversation to find out how this approach can be introduced to your team through a day’s workshop,  leaving deceptively simple processes in place that nevertheless have a profound impact on connection and productivity.

Training for counsellors and therapists who wish to add coaching to their therapeutic approach

I am pleased to be able to provide high quality bespoke interactive experiential training courses, designed to appeal to participants with a range of learning styles. Each course comes with a comprehensive training pack used both as a workbook during the course and as a resource and reference guide back in the work place.  I have designed and delivered training for Youth Access, the National Youth Agency, Relate, Place2Be and other national and local agencies, since 2007 and since 2013 have trained in creative corporate organisations, for educational leaders and for counsellors in a police service.

I design and facilitate a national professional development day for BACP entitled An Introduction to building a coaching approach for counsellors, which has run 14 times to date  in different parts of the UK since 2013.  I was co founder and director of Therapist2Coach, from 2013 – 2016, providing training for counsellors who wanted to coach and become accredited at Senior Practitioner level with EMCC.  Our training received the prestigious European Quality Award.

In 2014 I was commissioned to write e-learning modules for Counselling MindEd focusing on counselling in community settings and cultural competence.

Team building using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

As a qualified step 1 assessor I create bespoke half and full day team building days using the MBTI psychometric framework to develop leadership, communication skills and facilitate change management.  Understanding “type” can raise both individual and team awareness  and appreciation of the benefits of different approaches to decision making, planning, and managing work load and teams.

Mental Health Awareness for coaches and teams

I introduce participants to continuum for mental health, focusing on how to support and increase mental wellbeing in ourselves and our teams and how to access further support where necessary for specific mental health issues.

  • An introduction to developing a coaching approach (for qualified counsellors)
  • Using solutions focused approaches in coaching and counselling
  • Assessing risk and resilience with young people in the counselling assessment process
  • Understanding identity, exploring differences and challenging prejudice
  • Creative tools for coaching and counselling
  • Personal consultancy – a framework for integrating counselling and coaching

Each training course or workshop is designed specifically for the organisation commissioning it. Each module is preceded by a pre-course questionnaire for participants to ensure that the training is focused and relevant to the their particular concerns within the parameters of the learning objectives.

I can offer one-off workshops of one or two days duration, and longer courses consisting of specific modules, which can be scheduled with time in between for application of principles frameworks and tools and further reflection to bring back to the course for discussion.

Courses are evaluated for their effectiveness both at the end of the workshop and, if requested, by a follow up evaluation on the effectiveness of the transfer of learning and it’s impact on each participants work.

With each piece of training commissioned the specific work involved and the costs will be agreed, taking into account preparation required, meetings attended, number of training days requested, the level of evaluation required, and the arrangements for printing training packs, attendance certificates and evaluation forms.

Please contact me to discuss the needs of your organisation.

Carolyn has delivered a consistently high quality residential weekend training for Place2be postgraduate students on the subject of Cultural Competence for the past four years. Students welcome her knowledge, wisdom and responsiveness and greatly value the thoroughness and rigour of her materials and their learning from the weekend is immediately evident. As a colleague I have always found Carolyn to be dynamic, thoughtful, authentic, warm and challenging in equal measure. She is a great teacher and an inspirational role model.” Niki Cooper, Programme Leader for Professional Qualifications, Place2Be

Carolyn led on the design and delivery of a unique and acclaimed youth counselling training programme, which was accredited at masters level by the University of East London. Carolyn’s methodical and thorough approach, coupled with her detailed knowledge and superb facilitation skills consistently generate excellent ratings and feedback. In high demand by the youth counselling field, Carolyn works very effectively with groups, whilst paying close attention to the needs of individual participants. She is always a pleasure to work with!Barbara Rayment, Director, Youth Access.

“If you are looking for someone skilled at helping you identify your needs: be they individual or a team’s training needs, and you need someone who can respond attentively, flexibly and positively, then Carolyn is the person you are looking for! Without doubt, Carolyn is a superb trainer and facilitator; she has consistently achieved excellence in everything she has undertaken for Youth Access.”.
Barbara Rayment, Director, Youth Access

I have employed Carolyn both in her capacity as a consultant and a trainer and in that time she has proved to be:

  • Very thorough and professional in her approach to training and facilitating (and knows the difference)
  • Excellent at being well prepared for any course
  • Aware of trainee needs as well as commissioner needs
  • Capable of different roles within training, from individual support to group development;
  • Able to create and maintain a healthy atmosphere and is not afraid to deal with and work through challenge
  • Creative and a good judge of pace and stretch
  • Good at the technicalities – resource production, power points, exercise design etc

Carolyn is steeped in good training practice and has perfected her skills over several years and many outings.

In my experience, she delivered one of the best-received training courses on record, working with a skilled and demanding group. The feedback was first class, and this was largely down to her ability to take the group with her in terms of interest and energy and desire to learn more and find out more.

Add to the above the qualities of dependability, accuracy, real concern for the learners’ experience and quick thinking capacity, and you have a person who will represent your organisation well, deliver what you need and more, and help you to develop your materials and approaches so that they improve rather than stagnate.
Richard McKie, National Programme manager for Health, National Youth Agency
