The Third Act

  • Contemplate it

The Third Act in our life takes us into a new era. Previously, our time and identity may have been largely shaped by our roles, in the workplace or in the family. Now, we are faced with the opportunity, and for some, the threat, of navigating life in a new way.

We have discovered through our own experience and through the wisdom of others who have navigated this life stage, that there are some waypoints to bear in mind, some tasks to undertake, and some questions and ideas to consider that clear the way to navigate this transition with greater insight and intention.

This will mean accompanying yourself as you review your life so far, and perhaps change your narrative from the past. Regardless of how much change has been longed for, there may be some grief and disorientation. You may feel some resistance to taking, or in some cases creating, the fresh path.

We bring ideas from our own lived experience, our therapeutic coaching backgrounds, and from the world of theory, literature, music and art. We provide information and a place to think for, and as yourself about your Third Act.

Carolyn Mumby and Karen Ledger provide individual coaching spaces and the opportunity to engage in person, and online, with others in workshops that have been created to enable you to become clearer about what matters, and be inspired about how to achieve it.

  • Build it.

We use design ideas to explore what is precious in your life that you want to preserve. To recognise what needs to be cleared away and let go. To see what is new and emergent that you want to let in, and finally to become clearer on the boundaries that will support you as you move further into your Third Act of life.

What are some of the untrue limiting assumptions that you have been living as true? What are the liberating true assumptions that will enable you to dream and design how you want to live and work in this. next stage of life?

By embracing anew what used to matter but to date has remained unlived in your life - you can remap your journey even as you face new challenges through the aging process.

There is a distilling that happens as you move forward and it’s only by learning to be with what is that we find the renewed enthusiasm and energy for what we want to contribute now.

You will be supported to build a deeper relationship with yourself and have the opportunity to connect with others in a workshop setting, to help you create the pattern and rhythms of the life you want.

  • Grow it.

Growing more consciously into your Third Act of life will require ongoing support from within yourself and from others. Our work is informed by the practice and process of the Thinking Environment, creating opportunities for people to think for and as themselves. If we think with greater ease, creativity and courage, we can be bolder in creating the life we would like.

We also bring insights from the development of Polyvagal Theory “the science of feeling safe enough to fall in love with life and take the risks of living”. This means that we enable you to become more acquainted with and befriend your own nervous system, so that you learn how to return to a state of equanimity when your body has become defensively mobilised or gone into a state of disconnection or collapse. This mobilisation and withdrawal is very natural and Polyvagal Theory helps us move more fluidly in and out of the states that serve us rather than getting stuck in a defensive state.

Use your insights and plans to take action, to live and work as far as possible in the way that you want. Create and flourish, dare to be utterly yourself, relax and find ease.

Beyond these 3 stages we offer further workshops on specific themes and you may also choose to remain part of a supportive inspiring community as you grow in and through your Third Act of life. We will also provide signposting to further information and opportunities for development.
